About Macrition

Why we exist

Macrition began in 2026 with a frustration most people know well. Nutrition websites bury their tools under ads, gate basic calculators behind signups, and rarely explain where their numbers come from. We wanted to build the place we wished existed: a nutrition platform that shows its work.

That idea now runs on a full application platform. Every calculator still works without an account. Every formula is published with its equation, its source, and its known limits on our methodology page. Every food in our database carries its nutrition panel and its upstream source, so you can judge the data yourself instead of taking our word for it.

What you can do here

The platform covers the whole daily workflow. A library of 215 calculators spans body composition, metabolism, macros, fitness, pregnancy, vitamins, and clinical lab values. 9 browser apps cover the same workflow: the food diary, meal planning, recipe analysis, food comparison, progress tracking, and hydration, plus barcode scanning, custom foods, and ingredient swaps. A curated food database of 1.8 million foods, built primarily from USDA FoodData Central with selected Open Food Facts entries, backs all of it.

Create a free account and your diary, meal plans, goals, and preferences sync securely across your devices. An AI nutrition coach can analyze your diary, suggest meal plans, and answer nutrition questions using the same published formulas. It is a coach, not a doctor, and it says so whenever a topic needs a clinician instead.

Progress photos are handled differently on purpose. They are stored on your device and never uploaded, so the most sensitive data a health app can hold never leaves your pocket. Dashboard layouts follow the same principle: each device keeps its own arrangement.

How we make money

The core tools are free and stay free. Paid plans add capacity and depth: more AI coaching, advanced trend analytics, custom calculators, API access, and meal prep tooling. A 14-day Pro trial lets you evaluate the paid tier with your own data before paying anything, and canceling takes one click from your dashboard, with no retention scripts and no exit surveys. Subscriptions are processed by Stripe and PayPal, which handle your card details; we never see them.

Our editorial and data standards

Every article on our blog cites primary research, and we do not publish sponsored content or native advertising. Calculator formulas come from peer-reviewed literature and established clinical references, and our methodology page documents each one with its citation and its population limitations. When a formula is only valid for healthy adults, we say so on the calculator itself.

The food database is curated rather than scraped. Values are normalized and checked for plausibility, so sugar cannot exceed total carbohydrates and calories stay within sane ranges. Each entry records its upstream source, which means provenance questions always have an answer. And when we get something wrong, we fix it in the open: reported nutrition errors are verified against the upstream source and corrected within seven days, because a data error left standing is a trust error.

Privacy, in plain terms

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with advertisers or data brokers. Analytics are first-party and pseudonymous, respect Do Not Track, and only run after you make your cookie choice. You can download everything we hold about you in one machine-readable export, and you can delete your account yourself, without emailing anyone. Passwords are hashed with bcrypt, two-factor authentication is available to every account, and sensitive actions ask you to sign in again.

The full details, including exactly what we collect and how long we keep it, are in our privacy policy.
